Our Story & Vision:

Picture: Eight-year-old Aikido student Jaxine Wolfe flips Mr. Michael L. Werth Sensei at Aikido – Downtown in Providence in January of 2005.Main Street Martial Arts had humble beginnings in August of 2000 under the name Rhode Island Aikikai - Downtown when Mr. Michael L. Werth Sensei approached Master Charles C. Earle III Sensei (1942-2006) of Charles Earle’s Uechi Karate School to ask about starting a small club program on Sunday mornings in the master’s dojo.  Master Earle Sensei agreed, and so began our dedicated training with the aim to ultimately build a leadership program and community center focused on developing children and families through the inspiration and power of the ancient martial arts.

In 2006, we moved to Main Street Martial Arts at 1282 North Main Street and set a new tone for dedicated training in leadership, martial arts, and community outreach.  Our Kids’ Action League of Martial Artists, Inc. 501(c) (3) program continues to evolve as we take on scholarship students dedicated to training and leadership. (see www.kaloma.org)  We are running serious practices in an enjoyable atmosphere for adults’ and kids’ programs in Traditional Ueshiba O-Sensei Japanese Aikido, Traditional Uech-Ryu Okinawan Karate, Traditional Yang Style Chinese Tai Chi, and our newly established music and movement programs for children from infants to kindergarten.  (see www.musicmindy.org)

Today, we have firmly established an outstanding after-school childrens’ youth leadership program and family classes.  We offer REAL martial arts training and character development, loyal to the traditions, ethics, and inspiration of a day when a person said what they meant and meant what they said, when standing up for what you believed was the right thing to do, and when honoring your mother and father was well understood by all.
