Our
Story & Vision:
Broome’s
first impression was that it looked “very hard.” She said her physical activities were limited
to high school gym class so she was intimidated by the basic moves. “The tumbling, knee-walking, and break-falls
seemed almost impossible for someone of my limited athletic capability,” she
said. “With Werth Sensei’s patient and
compassionate guidance, I’ve become proficient at some things such as forward
rolls and some break-falls.”
Werth Sensei describes Aikido as a martial art that teaches people to discover the peace and harmony within themselves and a way to generate peace, awareness, and responsiveness. Aikido – Downtown’s classes benefit both adults and children. Children learn to improve their self-esteem, they learn about respect and confidence while attaining self-defense awareness skills.
Adults get a great way to get in shape while relieving stress. They also gain confidence and learn skills that could save their lives. “I have gained confidence and courage enough to try things I never would have considered before,” said Broome.
