Our
Story & Vision:
People
that are interested in taking part in an Aikido class need to wear sweat pants,
a T-shirt, and be prepared for a light workout.
“It’s not hard,” said Werth Sensei.
“You do what you feel like doing.”
Werth Sensei said that to master Aikido, people need to learn the basics and build on them. Students basically have to learn how to crawl, walk, and run before they can fly. “It takes a while to get there and overcome one’s fears, but the passion becomes infections, along with the desire to improve,” said Werth Sensei.
Aikido is not a competitive sport and Aikido – Downtown is not a sport school. “It’s not about scoring points. It’s not about beating someone,” said Werth Sensei. “You won’t get trophies. You won’t get a sense of achievement through competition. Instead, you learn to appreciate what is around. It’s engaging in something real with no external award system.” “I never get tired of it,” he said.
