for Yoga - Eastside

Hari Atma Kaur studied under Gurucharan Singh Khalsa, one of the first disciples of Yogi Bhajan, founder of the Kundalini Research Institute. Kundalini Yoga specializes in “uncurling like a fine hair”, the unlimited potential energy of the human body and spirit.

The workshop will be $25.00 for non-members and $15.00 for Main Street Martial Arts members. Lunch from Garden Grille is included. (for serious students ages 12 and up, or by permission of Werth Sensei or Hari Atma)

Kundalini Yoga is said to be the “mother form” of the 22 schools of Yoga, and therefore one of the most ancient forms of Yoga handed down from teacher to student from the Himalayan mountain region in Northern India. Kundalini is a special style of Yoga focusing on building children and adults in core body and breathing conditioning exercises. Kundalini was designed for busy adults with work and family responsibilities.

The practice of Kundalini Yoga consists of a number of bodily postures, expressive movements and utterances, characterological cultivations, breathing patterns, and degrees of concentration (Sovatsky, 1998). None of these postures and movements should, according to scholars of Yoga (Sovatsky, 1998), be considered mere stretching exercises or gymnastic exercises. Sovatsky (1998) describes 'Kundalini Yoga' as an energetically guided Yoga. This means that the discipline is informed by the understanding of pranotthana, or "intensified life-energy".

Pranotthana is sometimes thought to lead to spontaneous psycho-motor manifestations which, according to Yogic hermeneutics, might be interpreted as signs of psycho-spiritual growth and bodily maturation. The word, 'Kundalini', literally means "the curl of the lock of hair of the beloved." It is a metaphor, a poetic way of describing the flow of energy and consciousness which already is said to exist within each person. The practices are said to enable the person to merge with or "yoke" the universal Self. Kundalini Yoga will tie together physical fitness & conditioning, martial arts training, and “sitting”, or meditative practices in an intensive system that will teach you how to unlock your spiritual potential.
